It's right to be concerned. Footage may contain an unreleased product, employees' faces, or your family's daily life. Before handing it to an outside studio you should know how they handle it. Here is how we do it; these are also good questions to ask any editing studio.
Our basic principles
- Your footage is used only for your project, never in another client's video.
- We don't add the result to our portfolio without asking. If we'd like to show it, we ask first; if you say no, it stays private.
- Only the people working on your project have access.
- After delivery, we delete footage and project files at your request. Without a request, we keep them for a period so later changes are possible; we state how long at delivery.
When you need an NDA
Corporate clients often do. You can send us your company's non-disclosure agreement to sign, or tell us before commissioning and we write confidentiality terms into the quote. For unreleased products or internal material, we suggest settling this before any footage is sent.
Transfer and storage
- Share footage via a Google Drive link rather than a public download link. Sharing can be restricted to specific accounts; see how to send us your material.
- After the project you can close the shared link at any time; it doesn't affect us.
- The finished video is delivered by private link too, never uploaded to a public platform.
What you can do yourself
- Send only what's needed. Keep unrelated files out of the shared folder.
- Restrict the share link to specific accounts, and close it when the project ends.
- Flag sensitive content up front. An employee who doesn't want to appear, a product detail that can't be shown; we handle it during editing. See face blurring.
- Keep your own backup. Anything you hand over should exist somewhere else too.
Frequently asked questions
The footage shows customer data. Can Chipscat blur it?
Yes. On-screen text, screens and faces can all be masked or blurred; mark the spots when commissioning.
Can we ask that the result never appears in your portfolio?
Yes, just say so when commissioning. Without your consent we don't publish it.
Can we ask for immediate deletion after delivery?
Yes. Once you've confirmed the final file, tell us and we delete the footage and project files. After that no further changes are possible, so check the result first.
