Many couples skip the videographer and only realise afterwards that their guests' phones hold dozens of clips: the entrance, the vows, the toasts, the speeches, the bouquet toss. Those clips can be edited into a highlight video. You just need to know the limits first, and collect the footage the right way.
Yes, with three limits
- Uneven image quality: different phones and different hands mean brightness and colour vary a lot. Colour grading narrows the gap, but it can't make a dark shot sharp.
- Uneven sound: phones far from the stage mostly pick up the PA system and the people nearby. If even one clip captured the vows or a speech clearly, that clip is gold.
- Vertical and horizontal mixed together: guests mostly film vertically. A vertical clip in a horizontal video gets black bars or a blurred background, and vice versa. We choose the final aspect ratio based on where you'll mainly watch it.
How to collect footage from guests
- Create a Google Drive folder, set it so anyone with the link can upload, and share the link in the group chat.
- Ask everyone to upload the original files. Don't send video through LINE or Messenger; it gets compressed. Step by step: uploading to Google Drive from a phone.
- Ask each person to put their name in the file name or a subfolder, so we know who shot what and from where.
- Set a deadline. Two weeks after the wedding is ideal; the longer it drags, the more people forget.
The clips that matter most
Not every clip will be used. If you have these, flag them:
- The entrance, exchanging rings, the vows, the kiss.
- Speeches by parents, the officiant and the couple.
- Interaction at the tables during toasts, guests' well-wishes.
- The bouquet toss, seeing guests off, the second entrance, anything with movement.
- The venue, the food, guests arriving: useful as connecting shots.
If two or three people filmed the same moment from different angles, even better. We can cut between them.
What the result looks like
A highlight video from guest footage usually runs three to five minutes, tied together by one or two pieces of music. The vows and speeches keep their live audio with subtitles. Mild shake can be stabilised; dark footage can only be improved so far. After looking at the footage we'll tell you what's usable and what we'd leave out, rather than promising first.
