Family videos from years ago, wedding footage and early event recordings often come back blurry, full of noise and yellowed or color-shifted. These videos can't be re-shot, yet they're irreplaceable memories and records. Chipscat Studio offers old video restoration: we assess the footage first, explain how much improvement to expect, and you decide whether to go ahead.

Note: we work on digital video files. If the footage is still on VHS, Video8, DV or other tape, it needs to be digitized first; then we can restore the picture.
How it works
- Upload the video to Google Drive. Create a folder, upload the video, right-click the folder, turn on link sharing and send us the link.
- Free assessment. We assess the damage and the room for improvement. If we think the improvement would be too small to be worth the cost, we say so. The assessment is free.
- Report and quote. If restoration makes sense, we send a report and a quote explaining how far it can be improved. Work starts only after you confirm.
What to expect
Old video restoration means "improving what's already in the footage as far as possible", not inventing detail that was never there. The source sets the ceiling: footage with acceptable resolution that mainly suffers from noise and color casts usually improves clearly; heavily blurred footage with very little information may only improve partly. We say this plainly in the assessment report, so you know what you'll get before paying.

Can you turn an old video into 1080p or 4K?
We can raise the output resolution, but the real sharpness still depends on the source. We explain the expected result during assessment.
The video is long. Can you restore only part of it?
Yes. Many clients restore only the important sections. Tell us the time ranges during assessment.
Can I mail you the tapes?
We currently accept digital files only. Have the tapes digitized by a transfer service first, then send us the files for restoration.
How long does it take?
It depends on the length and the condition of the footage. We give an estimated number of working days with the quote.
