Many problems in event post-production are decided on the day of filming: the sound wasn't captured properly, there's only one angle, nobody filmed the audience reacting. The eight points below need no professional equipment and make the finished video much better.
Before filming
- Decide what the video is for. A three-minute highlight, a full record, or a short social version? The purpose decides what to film.
- Arrange the sound. Ideally the speaker wears a lavalier mic, or a feed is taken from the mixing desk. Camera-only sound from a distance is usually unclear, and post-production can only improve it, not restore it.
- Prepare the assets. The event's key visual, logo, and the speakers' names and titles, handed over with the footage.
During filming
- Add a second angle. One fixed camera on the wide shot, one handheld for close-ups. Two angles to cut between keep the video from feeling flat.
- Film reactions. The audience listening, laughing, applauding and taking photos is exactly what a highlight video needs.
- Film cutaways. The venue exterior, registration desk, decorations, food and seating, a few seconds each, for transitions.
- Roll a few seconds longer. Three seconds before and after each shot gives the edit room to breathe.
After filming
- Organize before handing over. Name files in time order, delete clearly broken clips, upload to Google Drive and send us the link. See how to send footage.

Yes. Film horizontally, keep the phone steady and stay close to the speaker for sound. Picture and sound quality affect the result, and we explain what to expect when we assess it.
The event is over and the sound is bad. Can it be saved?
