Alongside printed invitations, many couples now send a short video to their group chats. Guests tap it and see the two of you, hear the music, and get the date and place in one go; it's easy to forward to parents and relatives too. It doesn't replace the card. It makes being invited feel like something.
Length: 30 to 60 seconds
An invitation video is opened on a phone, inside a chat. Nobody watches three minutes of invitation. Thirty to sixty seconds fits a few photos, one line, and the details. Save the story for the growth video at the reception.
What it must include
- Both names.
- The date, the day of the week, and the times for seating and the start.
- The venue name and address.
- How to reply: a form link or a QR code.
Keep this text on screen for at least five seconds, in type large enough to read on a phone. Show the date and place again at the very end, because many people skip straight there. And since text inside a video means a re-export to change, confirm every detail before production starts.
Vertical or landscape
For chat apps and Instagram, vertical (9:16) fills the phone screen and feels best. If you also want it on a wedding website or for desktop viewing, ask for a landscape or square version at the start so the photos are framed with both in mind.
A simple structure
- First three seconds: your best photo together, or a short clip from the pre-wedding shoot.
- Middle: three to six photos set to music, with a line you want to say.
- The invitation itself: something as simple as "We'd love you to be there."
- Details page: date, time, place, how to reply.
Pairing it with an RSVP form
A video can't hold a clickable link. Send the video and the form link in the same message, and put a QR code in the video for anyone watching on a computer or TV. A simple online form asking for headcount, dietary needs and child seats is enough.
What to send us
- Five to ten photos (original files); behind-the-scenes clips from the pre-wedding shoot are even better.
- The confirmed details as typed text, so nothing is copied wrongly from an image.
- The style of music you like. Invitation videos get forwarded and posted, so licensed music is the safer choice; see using popular music in a wedding video.
- Your invitation card design or colours, so the type and palette match.
For sending files, see how to provide footage. Other kinds of wedding video are covered in wedding video editing.
FAQ
What if the details change after the video is made?
The text can be changed and the video re-exported; that counts as a revision, within the scope set out in the quote. Copies already sent can't be recalled, so settle the details first.
Do chat apps reduce the quality?
They compress it somewhat. An invitation video is short, so the effect is small; larger type and simpler frames stay clear after compression.
Can it be made without pre-wedding photos?
Yes. Everyday photos work well and often look more like the two of you.
