Can AI Be Used in a Wedding Video? Where It Works and Where It Doesn't

Some couples ask: "Can AI turn our story into an animation?" Part of it, yes, though not quite as people imagine. A wedding video is about how the two of you really look, and that is exactly what AI is weakest at. Here is what works and what doesn't, so you can decide.

Not recommended: generating your faces

Give AI a few photos and ask for "the two of us in front of the Eiffel Tower", and the result is usually close but not you. The shape of the face and the proportions shift, and differ from image to image. Your guests know you better than anyone; on a large screen they see it at once, and it breaks the moment.

Turning a photo directly into moving video has the same problem: expressions and features can change, and photos of parents or of childhood need particular care. See turning photos into video.

Where it works

  • Atmosphere at the opening. A few seconds of stars, petals, a city at dawn, a book opening. No people, only mood.
  • Scenes nobody photographed. "We met in the university library", with no photo from that day. An illustrated AI scene can show it, with the figures from behind, in silhouette or at a distance.
  • Illustrated or cartoon characters. The two of you drawn in a storybook style. Since it was never meant to be realistic, likeness isn't the test; hairstyle, glasses and clothes carry it. The character will still vary slightly between frames, which is worth knowing beforehand.
  • Backgrounds for an invitation or title. Text and real photos over a generated background.
  • Transitions between chapters. An image to bridge "him", "her" and "us" in a growth video.

The dependable approach: real photos first, AI in support

Our suggestion is to build the video on your real photos and clips and use AI for the opening, transitions and the parts of the story without photos. It feels fresh without losing what matters most. See preparing a wedding growth video and wedding video editing.

What to prepare

  1. The story in words. How you met, the first date, the proposal, and which parts you'd like shown with AI scenes.
  2. Style references. Picture books, animation or illustration you like, as images or links.
  3. Your features (for illustrated characters): hair, glasses, usual clothes, pets.
  4. Real photos and clips, the wedding date and the venue.

Allow more time than for a standard wedding video

AI scenes begin with a storyboard to agree direction and are produced after approval; see what a storyboard is in AI video production. Add the editing itself and it's wise to start earlier than usual. The date won't move; see how long wedding video editing takes.

FAQ

Can AI bring a relative who has died into the video?

Please talk it through with the family first; people feel differently. Technically, animating a photo can change how someone looks, so we usually suggest using the original photo, shown quietly.

Will AI scenes look fake on the reception screen?

Illustrated and atmospheric scenes generally hold up. Realistic close-ups of people show their flaws on a large screen, which is why we advise against them.

Could the whole love story be an AI animation?

We can discuss it, with the understanding that characters can't be kept fully consistent between shots and that production takes longer. What is achievable depends on your story.
