AI Video FAQ: Copyright, Real People and Commercial Use

AI video is increasingly common, and the most frequent client question isn't technical but "is this allowed?". Below are the general principles we follow in practice. Laws and platform rules change, so for major commercial use please confirm with a legal professional.

Can AI-generated visuals be used commercially?

The AI tools we use generally allow commercial use of generated content under their terms of service; the details differ by tool, and we follow the terms of the tool in use at the time. Copyright in generated content is still developing in many countries. If your video needs a clear copyright claim (for example trademark registration or a large ad campaign), tell us first and we'll explain the limits.

Can I use a real person's face?

Using a real person's likeness needs their consent, and public figures need extra care. Technically, AI also can't guarantee an accurate likeness of a specific person. For content that needs a real person on screen, we recommend real footage, or mixing real footage with AI visuals.

How are logos and products shown?

Logos should be added in post-production from your original files, not generated by AI, so they're correct. Real product details (materials, buttons, packaging text) should also come from real photos, because AI generation tends to get details wrong.

Music, fonts and material licenses

We use properly licensed music and fonts, or material you provide with the rights cleared. If the video will run as an ad, tell us so we choose material with a matching license.

Can you imitate someone else's footage, characters or style?

Requests to imitate a specific work, character or artist's style raise infringement concerns, and we don't take them on. You can give us references for "mood and direction", and we'll produce it in a general way.

Who owns the finished files?

After delivery and payment, the finished video is yours to use. Project files aren't part of the delivery; ask before we start if you need them. We don't keep files long-term after a project, so please back them up.

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI video go on YouTube or run as a Meta ad?

Yes, but platforms may have labeling or review rules for AI content, and the rules change. Follow the platform's rules at the time of publishing; we can help add a label if needed.

Will you show my video in your portfolio?

Only with your permission. If you'd rather keep a project private, tell us when we start.
